The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher education and Research, the CNRS for the French part and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) for the Japanese part, have signed an agreement on March 15th, 2006 in order to implement Japanese-French Frontiers of Science symposia (JFFoS).

JFFoS Symposia are taking place every year alternately in France and in Japan.
Seventy researchers are participating to 7 sessions* of 2 hours each covering 7 scientific fields which usually are :
- Life/Medical Science
- Chemistry
- Earth Science/ Environment
- Material Science
- Physics and Astrophysics
- Social Sciences / Humanities
- Mathematics/ Informatics

_* From 2007 till 2013, there were 8 sessions, from now on there will be only 7.
